Quick answer

Do under-eye fillers work for dark circles and how long do they last?

Under-eye fillers work best when dark circles are caused by hollowness — a shadow from volume loss in the tear trough. A soft HA filler placed with a cannula can soften that shadow immediately, and results typically last around 9–12 months or longer, depending on the product. Circles caused by pigmentation or thin skin need different care, such as lasers or Rejuran — see our dark circles page. Puffy eye bags may not suit filler at all.

Why JIA Skin Clinic

Careful correction for a delicate area

The under-eye is one of the most technique-sensitive areas for filler. Your JIA physician first confirms that filler is the right answer — and uses less, not more.

Honest assessment

We check whether shadows come from hollowness, pigment, thin skin or fat bags — and say so if filler won't help.

Soft, low-swelling fillers

Flexible gels chosen for the thin under-eye skin help reduce lumpiness and puffiness.

Cannula technique

A blunt cannula typically means fewer entry points and less bruising.

Transparent pricing

VAT-inclusive quotes, no foreigner mark-ups and clear English aftercare.

What under-eye filler treats

Concerns we commonly soften

Tear trough filler helps when the problem is volume loss. Typical concerns include:

  • Hollow tear troughs and a sunken under-eye
  • A tired look despite enough sleep
  • Shadow-type dark circles
  • Mid-face volume loss contributing to under-eye shadows
  • Uneven contour between the lower lid and cheek
  • Early under-eye aging — often paired with treatment for under-eye wrinkles

How under-eye filler works

Consultation

Your doctor examines the under-eye in different light and positions to confirm the cause of your shadows.

Mapping & numbing

The tear trough is marked and numbing cream applied for comfort.

Cannula placement

Small amounts of soft filler are placed deep with a cannula and gently smoothed — about 20–30 minutes.

Settling & review

Mild swelling or bruising settles over a few days; the result integrates over about 2 weeks.

Is it right for you?

Who under-eye filler suits

  • Adults with hollow tear troughs and good skin quality
  • People who look tired even when rested
  • Those with mid-face volume loss
  • People wanting a quick, non-surgical refresh
  • Not ideal for prominent fat bags — consider a non-surgical eye lift or surgical opinion
Good to know

Before & after your treatment

  • Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning supplements for 24–48 hours beforehand if possible
  • Sleep slightly elevated the first night and use cold compresses for swelling
  • Avoid rubbing the eyes, saunas and heavy exercise for a few days
  • If you notice a bluish tint or lumps, contact us — HA can be adjusted with dissolving filler
  • Not suitable during pregnancy, with active infection or very puffy lower lids; seek help urgently for vision changes or severe pain
FAQ

Under-eye filler questions, answered

Do under-eye fillers get rid of dark circles?

They help when circles are mainly a shadow from hollowness. Pigment-related or vascular circles need other treatments — your doctor will explain which type you have.

How long do tear trough fillers last?

Typically around 9–12 months, and sometimes longer because the area moves less. Results vary with the product and your metabolism.

Is under-eye filler safe?

It is a well-established treatment when performed carefully by a doctor, but the area is delicate. Risks include bruising, swelling, lumps, a bluish (Tyndall) tint and, rarely, vascular complications.

Why do some people look puffy after under-eye filler?

Usually from too much product, the wrong filler or treating eye bags rather than hollows. JIA uses small volumes of soft filler and declines treatment when it isn't suitable.

Can I fly after under-eye filler?

Most people fly within a day or two. Swelling may be slightly more noticeable for the first 48 hours.
